Everywhere we look these days, we’re surrounded by opportunities to give back and improve the world we live in. Del Sol’s sister brand, Cariloha, ran into one such opportunity last year when Cariloha began sponsoring the Miles 2 Give organization on their maiden run across the United States (3,187 miles) to raise money for Sarcoma Cancer research.
This year, both Del Sol and Cariloha are sponsoring Miles 2 Give during their second tour for Sarcoma Cancer Research, which began on April 29 and will continue for 10,000 miles counter-clockwise around the USA from Times Square, New York City back to Times Square within 7 to 8 months.
Miles 2 Give’s 3,000-mile team run cross country for sarcoma awareness made headlines in 2013, and they’re setting out to raise even more awareness and research funding this time around.
Del Sol is providing all four members of the Miles 2 Give running team with several pairs of its polarized, color-changing Solize sunglasses. The sunglasses’ frames change color with sunlight and then return to their original color without sunlight – each pair of sunglasses comes with a lifetime guarantee against theft, loss or damage. Del Sol also provided Miles 2 Give with thousands of color-changing rings that the runners are giving to the hundreds of children who they’ll meet at various hospitals and events along their 10,000-mile journey.
“The Del Sol products don’t just change color with sunlight,” said Scott Brady, Del Sol VP of Communications. “They make people smile and give them a moment of joy in their day – they also serve as a gauge for how strong the UV index may be, which is a good reminder to apply sunscreen. These are all good things for cancer survivors, warriors and supporters who may be looking for a little pick-me-up, a sunny reminder during an otherwise tough day.”
Miles 2 Give is a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization that raises research funding in the fight against sarcoma, the “forgotten cancer” by running across or around countries.
During the 2013 tour across the USA, the Miles 2 Give team surpassed its fundraising goal of $100,000. One hundred percent of all money raised on tour went directly to research in partnership with Sarcoma Foundation of America.
“The forgotten cancer is now a little more known by people across the country and the world,” said Cooper. “We want to give hope to warriors worldwide on days they didn’t want to fight on – they would turn to my team for inspiration.”
The 2014 goal is to raise $500,000 for sarcoma cancer research in partnership with Dr. Jones, Dr. Randall, and Dr. Schiffman of the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Huntsman Cancer Institute recently broke ground on a $100 million sarcoma research laboratory, expanding their efforts to see that this is the generation for a cure.
The Miles 2 Give team takes on sponsorships prior to every team run to cover the cost of each journey.
