Del Sol was honored this month to be a chief sponsor and donor at Utah’s Spectrum Academy Run/Walk, 5K and/or 10K. All proceeds from the event went toward ongoing education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The races were all-ages events that started and ended at the school in North Salt Lake City, Utah.
Del Sol donated hundreds of its color-changing retail bags and thousands of color-changing accessories to the runners and to the event to support further fundraising.
Spectrum Academy emphasized the ‘FUN’ in the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk by encouraging participants to race by whatever means of locomotion they chose, including running, walking, biking, skating, scooting, etc.
“The 2015 Spectrum Academy Turkey Trot was extremely successful and fun for all of the families and kids who attended. Del Sol was such a big part of helping us treat the children and the families to a fun event,” said Marie Seoane, Sponsorship Coordinator and UM Clinician. “We cannot thank you enough! The smiles on all the children’s’ faces are so much fun and make it worth it for all of us parent volunteers to continue to work on this event for the school each year!”
The Academy raised more than $20,000 this year from the event to go toward technology for the classrooms. Thanks to sponsors and donors like Del Sol, they were able to achieve their annual goal.
Thousands of additional Del Sol items will continue to benefit the school and its children through their “Gotcha Store,” which helps reinforce good behavior among the children. They earn “gotcha dollars,” which can be redeemed for Del Sol items at the store.
About Spectrum Academy
In 2006, a group of parents frustrated with the educational opportunities available for students with Autism, took it upon themselves to ensure the academic
success of their children. After years of hard work, sacrifice and sheer determination, they opened the doors of the first charter school in Utah dedicated solely to the academic, behavioral, and social success of students with Asperger’s Syndrome and high-functioning Autism.
Today, Spectrum Academy serves over 500 students in Kindergarten through 12th grade at our North Salt Lake campus, and over 450 students grades Kindergarten through 9th at our Pleasant Grove campus. Both campuses offer many services for students.
