In need of a vacation but just doesn’t fit into your budget right now? Don’t let a tight budget prevent you from getting some much-needed rest, relaxation and diversion. You can go on vacation in your own town or even from the comfort of your own home. It’s all in the planning and maybe a little creativity.
Next time you need a break from the mundane, try one of these 10 fun staycation ideas:
1. Visit Your Local Beach or Lake
Grab your sunglasses and towels – it’s time to hit the beach and get some sun. Spend the day lounging or playing in the water, building sand castles or walking the shore. Either way, it will be a day well spent.
2. Lock Yourself In
Put the phones away and enjoy a weekend in your own home. Snuggle up in a plush blanket and have a movie marathon, or create an at-home spa with towels and bathrobes and give yourself a mani/pedi with a cute nail polish.
3. Park Picnic
Dust off your basket, make some fun lunches and head to your local park. A nice, relaxing afternoon, soaking up plenty of vitamin D and fresh air, is something you deserve. Don’t forget the park gear for a little extra fun.
4. Local City Tour
Get out of your suburban neighborhood and head out to the city. Walk around your downtown area and discover a new store or restaurant that you’ve never been to. Who knows, it could become your new favorite.
5. Learn Something New
On most vacations, you most likely learn or try something new. So, why not do the same thing on your staycation. Do something that you wouldn’t normally do, like sky diving, skiing, or surfing. Go wherever the wind takes you.
6. Go for a Hike
What better way to enjoy the beautiful outdoors than to climb a mountain. Just throw on a comfy tank top and hit the trail. Take in what Mother Nature has to offer.
7. Bust out the Barbecue
Nothing says staycation like firing up the barbecue, grilling up some heavily marinated meats, and chilling in your backyard. Make it a party. Set up some games, invite the neighbors, and get everyone in the staycation mood.
8. Backyard Campout
Don’t have the time to drive up to the campsite? No problem. Set up the tent and all the gear in the backyard. You’ll have all the fun of sleeping outside with the convenience of being close to home.
9. Family Dinner Scavenger Hunt
Make a restaurant-style, vacation-worthy dinner and get the family involved. Take everyone to the grocery store to search for the ingredients a-la-scavenger hunt. After each ingredient they find, hand them a clue to the next one.
10. Bonfire
There’s nothing more relaxing then gazing into a majestic fire. Take in the silence and let the warm flame ease you into a comfort that makes you forget the stresses of life.
