Health and wellness experts consistently recommend setting aside one-on-one time with your children (at least weekly) to help them grow up feeling loved and valued. When you spend quality time with your children, they know you care and are interested in their lives.
If you’re dedicated to spending the time, you may be wondering what to do to fill that time. Here are some helpful ideas from a fellow collaborator, Become Gorgeous, who recently shared the following activities on her site.
We all know it’s important to set aside time to spend with our kids, but it’s also easy to fall into the trap of doing the same old thing with them, over and over again. What’s worse, oftentimes the “quality” time we choose to spend with our kids isn’t even actually all that high-quality, because it’s much easier for us to spend time in front of the TV after a long day.
But, with a little effort, you can create truly memorable experiences with your kids that help you grow closer to them, learn more about them, and have fun
while doing it.
Here are five easy mother-daughter activities to do this spring:
1. Pamper Yourselves
Teach your daughter the importance of self-care and a little “me” time with a fun, pampering night at home. Use a DIY hair to keep your locks luscious and paint her nails and toes. She’ll especially love fun color-changing nail polish.
2. Get Active
Doing fun, active things together — from yoga to going for walks — will help your daughter learn that fitness is a fun part of staying healthy.
3. Bake Together
Who doesn’t love cookies? Whether it be cake, banana bread, or another sweet concoction, baking is an incredible way to bring science into the kitchen, teach skills like math and measuring, and enjoy a delicious snack later in the day.
4. Help the Animals
Dogs in animal shelters spend too much time cooped up in kennels, so why not take them out on a walk during the day? Ask your local animal shelter if the dogs need daytime fosters or someone to come by and give them walks. Walking shelter dogs around the neighborhood is a great way to spend time with your kids, while also doing good at the same time!
5. Go to the Library or Bookstore
Help foster a love of books in your daughter’s heart by spending afternoons reading books at the bookstore or library. While reading books at home is all well and good, there’s something extra special about camping out among the bookshelves and reading together.
